RMH Family Rooms
Sometimes you just can’t go home.

The Ronald McDonald Family Rooms are an extension of the Ronald McDonald House of Cleveland. A bit of home within the walls of a hospital, the Family Room is a brief respite for families to use while remaining merely steps away from their child’s bedside. Currently, RMH operates the only two Family Rooms in the State of Ohio at University Hospital’s Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital and the Cleveland Clinic Children’s Hospital. Combined, both family rooms have served over 5,000 families making up nearly 90,000 visits since their openings, and 75 volunteers provide over 10,000 hours of service.

Both rooms provide an oasis within the hospital where families can spend time away from the hustle and bustle of busy corridors while still being close to their child. Family Rooms are equipped with a stocked kitchenette, a dining area, a comfortable living area, a play area for children, computers with internet access, and laundry facilities. (The Cleveland Clinic location also has restrooms with showers.) Two more Family Rooms are set to open soon at Fairview Hospital and Metro Health.

Upon entering one of our Ronald McDonald Family Rooms, families are greeted by volunteers who act as host or hostess of the room. Volunteers will register visitors, explain what services are available, and help families to feel at home. The main sitting area provides a comfortable place for families to relax and regroup. The kitchen area is stocked with a variety of snacks and beverages to enable families to refuel. Thanks to the generosity of our volunteers and donors, these goods and services are provided at no cost or low cost (we charge $.50 for bottled water and coke products) to the families using the facilities.

Family Room Volunteers
Volunteers who will provide a warm, friendly and supportive atmosphere for families are urgently needed for both Family Rooms. Family Room volunteers will register visitors, keep the room neat and tidy, keep the room supplied with snacks and beverages, maintain statistical records, and enforce policies. The Family Rooms are staffed from 9:00 a.m. through 9:00 p.m., seven days per week. Volunteers are needed for four hour shifts at the Cleveland Clinic and for three hour shifts at Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital.
